anti virus guard (avg) free is very good and try advanced system care, again free and very good..both work for me,and any pcs i repair/build.
Is it an asus laptop ?
SVC host is the part of windows that allows windows to launch .dll files as though they were .exe files - leave it alone.
asw processes are ASUS laptop files associated with wireless cards - but can use a lot of processor power. Enabling the wireless control center can disable it.
it is an asus and i ran a full agv system scan on it last night and it didnt flag anything up i've looked on the interweb and it wasn't very helpful to someone not very good with computers .i read somewhhere that trojans etc can"hide" behind the exe files
i'm concerened as on stand by the computer is using about 80% of its processing power and doesn't appear to be doing anything

If you shut down and restart the computer, go straight to Task Manager, how much CPU is getting used then?
What OS are you using (XP/Vista/7), etc?
just curious, do you have any installed anti virus/firewall software? is it made by Symantec? I only ask as my previous home PC had Norton Internet Security (made by Symantec) & my current work laptop has Symantec Endpoint.
Both have suffered with a marked slow down, so much so that i had the same thing as you with my old home PC. The laptop just seems to go slow without any increased processor activity.
For me it is all linked to the virus definitions updating part of the software, could be the same for you. Try setting the virus software to update when you're less likely to be using the computer. Also, try also setting the scan timing to a time when you're not using the PC, like overnight.
Free antivirus software is ok to a point, but to keep them free they don't have the level of protection that paid for software does.

aswl2k.exe <-- googled that and it comes back in all probability as malware/virus
svchost.exe <-- is a windows file and is used by windows programs to run services
Plasma's Tech2 services are now open and able to provide services
just done a Yahoo search & the aswl2k.exe, when on an ASUS pc, is related to the WLAN Control Centre. If you start this the aswl2k.exe should cease, freeing up your processor resources. See this page http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?...Language=en-us, just to confirm what rob2.2dti said above.
As for the "aswlk2.exe", search for it on your drive and rename it (aswlk2.old ??), then reboot the computer. This will prevent it from loading if it is such a virus. You might need to enter "safe mode" to do this. Will explain how if needed. If you have any problems after renaming it, can always rename it again nack to it's original name
i'mrunning xp and agv and spyware terminator and scan everyday
