Snapped Wheel Stud

My front n/s wheel has a snapped wheel stud. This must have been like this before I bought the car since I found out after having the tyres changed, on inspection someone's attempted to drill and extract it, but obviously didn't get anywhere.

Now although it's been fine on four studs for sometime I do want to fix this properly. The stud is snapped inside the disc so I'm hoping if I take the disc off there'll be enough stud sticking out the hub to weld a nut on and give that a go (a guy at work is willing to try this for me).

However, if this doesn't work or there's not enough stud poking out to get welding to, what will my options be? Is the hub/flange or whatever an expensive bit of kit to buy and is it easy to fit?

A front wheel hub is only about 70 odd quid. If you cant get it out with the disc off i'd personally just replace it. It's alot less hassle

to be fair once the weight is off the bolt ie:wheel and disc and just the stud in the thread I would think with a bit of lube or heat it would come out easy but saying that why did the previous owner not remove it? can you not get a second hand hub and just swap it over while you have it striped

Wouldn't have thought it would be too hard, especially with a bit of heat, or a freezer spray.

Alternatively, if there is a enough left with the disc off, grab it ****** tight with some mole grips.

some how i lost my locking wheel nut key , so i drilled in the center with a 6mm drill bit and went it about 10mm and then got a torq star bit and tapped it in the 6mm hole and then used a socket to undo it and it worked for me ,

Thanks all for the replies, I've only just got back on the net to view these.

I have an extractor set so maybe try that first, heat and freezer spray and see how it goes. Think I'll do it Thursday night as at work overnight without much to do.

I'll let you know how I get on!
