    Default Spoons VXR Stage III-

Forgive me but I'm quite excited today as I've just booked the car into Courtenay Sport for Stage III-

Total Vauxhall Magazine have also shown interest in doing a feature on the upgrade, so that might be a side bonus.

    - Insignia VXR Turbo Upgrade
    - Larger Water Radiator Upgrade
    - 3" Decatted Exhaust
    - New Iridium Spark Plugs Regapped
    - New Panel Filter
    - Custom Remap and Rolling Road Setup

I have no idea what the power will be, but expect around 320-325 BHP maximum and 420-430 Lb/ft limited

Then we need to get hold of a set of Insignia VXR fuel injectors to get the power up more.

So March 2011 will be an interesting month for me ... bring on the boost

its obvious that they are going to alter these but have they explained the reasoning behind it, just curious as it maybe something others could benefit from?

How come the BHP is so low given what can be done on the Saab 2.8?

My understanding is as follows... raising the boost with the new turbo can cause the spark to be 'blown out'... so buying a new set is just me wanting a new set (current spark plugs have done 34,000 miles) and then they regap them to provide a stonger spark.

You can buy race spark plugs for the VXR which are pre-gapped so dont need changing but they are £170 per set

    390 BHP? Sounds like a grenade-spec engine

I knew this would come up...

Apparently the Saab engine bay isnt exactly the same as the Vectra's.. The Saab has better induction and airflow.

Other tuners can get way more power out of the Vectra VXR engine but Courtenay Sport discovered that the fuel injectors get to maximum duty cycle at 330-335 BHP. This means power beyond that is easily possible but the car will run lean. It also doesnt give enough fuel provision in very hot weather (like summer). Running an engine with a lean mixture might be ok for very short blasts, but no good for track days or long high speed journeys (like I do in Germany... )... can be catastrophic for engine failure

So.. to be on the safe and responsible side of the fence, they will restrict the power to 320-325 BHP until new bigger injectors are fitted to allow for the higher duty cycle.

    I think that explains it

In addition to all that, I've driven a Vectra VXR with 342 BHP and 430 Lb/ft and it wheelspins in 1,2,3,4 gears... how much wheelspin do you want in a front wheel drive car?

With my suspension and quaiffe I'm hoping to reign in some of that wasted power, but who knows... guess we will find out at Santa Pod (a cruel place for car modding)... ... too much wheelspin and my car could end up slower !!
