temperature gauge

my temperature gauge works now and then , i get heat when i turn on the heater blowers , so theromostat is ok , some times the gauge inside the car works and some days the needle doesnt move , what can cause that

Knackered thermostat 99.9% certain

Give the connections on the temperature sender a good clean first though.

When it does move, what temp does it show? And does it only move when sitting in traffic or driving slowly?

when i drive the temperature goes down and then if i sit in traffic it move up alittle more

Deffo thermostat mate. Fairly easy to change.

What motor you got? There's bound to be a How2 on here for it

thats what happened with my 1.8. temp guage would rise, but slowly, and when upto a decent speed it would drop back to the start again. was advised to change the stat, which i got for £15 on ebay, changed it, now it gets up to temp alot quicker, heaters are much warmer, and the temp doesnt drop off anymore when at speed, and although it never felt bad before, the car is now alot smoother to drive, so think it was overfuelling as it was always thinking the engine was cold
