    Question ehps problem :(

drove my car home from work today and everything was working fine, went out tonight to take my daughter back to her mum's and the power steering light is on on the dash and is heavy as hell to turn. have removed headlight and bumper to check wiring and fluid level but all seems ok. started the car and it worked for a second then went off again

any ideasd as to what could be wrong.:s

from your username i assume that your car is a 2004? If that is the case this may apply..

"General Motors has decided that certain 2004 vehicles may have been built with a steering column sensor that can wear unevenly and produce an erratic electrical signal. When the system software detects that erratic signal, power steering assist is lost. That signal is more likely to occur when the steering wheel is turned slowly. If this occurs, the driver will hear a chime, the Service Vehicle Soon light will illuminate, and the Driver Information Center will display “Power Steering.” Steering control is still maintained, although more effort is required at low speeds. The next time the vehicle is started, the power steering assist usually returns to normal and the lights in the instrument panel will be turned off but loss of assist can occur again until repairs are made."

However... before going down the route of changing this part I would borrow a good working battery from somewhere first and run your car with it for a day.

the GM ehps can be refurbed but i do not know the prices.. http://www.bba-reman.com/content.asp..._Steering_Pump

Btw it can be easier sometimes to work on the power steering pump/reservoir by removing the OSF wheel and then the inner wheel arch liner, this does not take long but a few spare plastic rivets are needed..

    ***update***

had car in at vauxhall today when i was at work, they checked it with tec2 and found no stored "dtc's" however when the technician took it out a test drive the power steering light came on again and then he said there was no communication with the ehps ecu??? they have checked all the wiring and tested the pump and can find no faults. they have ruled out the cim as when the power steering light is on on the dash the indicators still switch themselves off. any ideas guys????
