    Default Full Respray

ive been looking at all the panels on my car recently to look at what needs repairing and spraying. it needs a new rear bumper, it needs the bonnet and roof spraying, the boot filled and sprayed and the n/s/r doors replacing and spraying aswell as a few other bits of damage over the car and i want to get an sri front bumper so was wondering if i might aswell take the car off the road, do all the prep work and respray the whole car. my question is how much would i be looking at if i did most of the prep myself? and do you think it would work out the best option taking into account money and possible colour difference?

the car is silver lightning if that makes a differance

Obviously it would be cheaper if you did all the prep and the painter was just left with the job of spraying it BUT, are you confident you will get the result that a painter will be happy to spray onto. Any painter will tell you that a good finish starts with proper prep. If the prep aint right, the final result will also not be right. If you know what you are doing, then go for it, I would (if I knew I'd do it right).

All that said, I reckon even with you doing the prep, a full respray in this day and age would be in the region of a grand and a half I'm happy to be corrected on that by somebody in the know, but I bet I'm not far off

Depends on if the full respray is simply the externally visible components, or the entire surface
If it is the same colour, the visible component respray would be good enough
However if it is a change of colour then you can pretty much double that (the work could be more than the car is worth)

90% of a paint job is in the preparation so be careful if you do it yourself

cheap is not the option have a look at what the painters/sprayers are doing when your there look at the standard of workmanship will you be happy with that?

Depends really on how well you prep the car. If its something youv not done before etc. then I wouldnt bother, a badly prepped car could end up costing more to get done in the long run. As has been said 90% of a good paint job is the prep work.

ide ant to keep the same colour so that makes things simpler. as for doing the prep[ myself its either a case of the paint stays as is or i do the prep and get it resprayed as i can warrant spending £700 but not really £2000, id have a mate who used to run the body show at the local merc commercial dealership (he painted brawn gp trucks then painted them again when it changed to merc gp) if he was still running it ide get him to do it but unfortunately not so ill get him to ive me a hand with some of the prep work anyways.

before i look into it too much ive gotta see how much im gonna be earning on my apprenticeship , it all rides on that really

bangty i take it that price was with me doing the prep?

how much do you think for just the outside with them doing the prep if there isnt too much in the way of filling to do, only on the odd dint, it would mean a new tailgate and door but it would be worth it if it is alot cheaper?

I had the external front bumper, bonnet and front wings resprayed two years ago, that was £280

Therefore a complete external respray would be around £700 to £800
The plastic components are easy, but ask them to check the metal panels for external corrosion before respray
