metal drain covers stolen

someone has stolen ,all the metal grates from two roads near me ( 50+ ) i nearly put a wheel in one open grate i am also a biker (gsx 600 ) .it would kill you if you hit one on a bike . whats it coming to..............

we had this problem a few months ago near us.
gypsies took the man hole covers from a trading estate.

Scrap metal value is huge, they dont care about the damage it can do to cars and pedestrians. Scrap metal dealers should tell them to GTF when they come around with them

they should booby trap the manholes
spray soapy water at them when they try to thieve the covers

seriously though, i don't know why they don't put trackers or something on manhole covers. a little chip to catch the crooks.

Strange thing is, if someone pinches them and you hit an open one in your car/bike or worse still, fall in, you can sue the Council lol

This happened by us last week.

there was a case a couple of years when a gang pretended to be repairing a motorway central reservation, but instead dismantled a long section of armco barrier and stole the lot, presumably for scrap metal

manhole covers cant be sold as scrap as its illegal for anyone to buy or sell them (scrap yard around here got big fine for it......saying that someone will buy them i bet

It's a nationwide problem and has been costing thousands for (likely) every local authority in the country, for months.
