Default Tried out my new lens

I had the chance to try out my new lens. For the photographers it is a Nikon 14-24 f2.8G FX lens, and a Nikon D700 body.
The photos were taken at Fradly Junction and the War Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas.

The photo of the curved wall is part of a circle. There are 16000 names engraved into the stonework and I am told there is roon for 15000 more. When you walk around the "site" you realise how many lives have been lost in conflicts over the years. There is also tribute to the "fire service" too.
I think it is nice to see a place like this as you can pay your respects to those who gave their lives not only to save lives, but the freedom of others.
We must never forget they gave the ultimate sacrifice.

    Those are great photos Ed.

I recently got back into photography but I'm making do with the kit lens that came with the camera at the moment. I'm upgrading the camera first.

That's a nice piece of kit you've added to your collection.

I have bought two new lens and a new body. The lens that I took the photos above was well very expencive. It cost me a three piece suite too. I said to Larisa I like that lens ( we were looking in jesops window). Without a second thought she said "three piece suite first".Still we both got what we wanted. Tell you what though Steve, the camera and lens are quite heavy.
Glad to hear you are back into photography. I left it out a bit, but now seem to have got my interest back.

I've had to buy a backpack now to carry all the gear. Lugging a tripod around doesn't help either.

I bought a new fancy zoom telephoto with has image stabilisation but I've hardly used it. 99% of the pictures are landscapes like these from Capel Curig.

The kit lens (Canon 18-55mm) has a terrible reputation but I think I must have a good one. The original (huge) files are very sharp.

    Are you shooting RAW files?

Nice photos Steve. There are some beautiful places in Wales. It is a place I love to go to. I have a Nikon 28-300 fx with image stabilisation. I think the idea is brilliant. Whilst most of my photography is landscape, this image stabilisation "lark" is brilliant as you can hand hold at a whole lot smaller f stop. One thing though Steve you say you have bought all the kit you mentioned above. Take it from my experiance. Don,t take too much kit you will not use most of it. I now only take what I think I need and now plan what I need to take and intend to use. I have this theory " the more you take the less you use".

Yep but that ain't working for me at the moment. I'm taking everything.

TBH I haven't got that much. Camera, three lenses and the tripod. I just know it's sods law that if I leave something behind that's the one item I'll need. lol.

I've added quite a few filters to the gear now mainly ND and graduated so they need looking after in a decent bag anyway.

Capel Curig and the surrounding area is just ace. It's harder to take a crap picture than a good one. The only problem is the rain. It's one of the wettest places in Wales apparently!

Changing from jpeg to RAW kicked it off for me. There's a huge difference in the quality of the images as well as the amount of detail you can tease out with a good RAW editor.
