    Default Petrol vs Diesel

    Hi all,
Been having a few probs with my 1.9 CDTi recently and been thinking of swapping it for a 2.0T. Problem is, when I test drove the two back-to-back the diesel seemed the best all rounder. I had a 2.0T try to outrun me on the motorway the other day (after the muppet nearly took the nose of my car) and his car couldnt even start to pull away.
There are still strong rumours that Vauxhall will be releasing a CDTI VXR (Twin Turbo Model) that will out drag the current GSI 3.2. Am I better waiting and getting this or going back to petrol vectras. The VXR Vectra is VERY tempting.
My Wife has a VW Golf GTi 180 and this feels quicker to drive but no quicker when we have been following each other. (Please no comments about female drivers)
Just after a few opinions. Cheers folks

Seen a picky of a Veccy C with the twin turbo engine. AS things have gone quite I fear that the VXR diesel will be a few months away. DOnt know how long I am willing to wait for my power problem to be sorted (Computer wont register a fault so dealer cant do anything)

I dont want to go in this to much but i have always had petrol cars. It really depends on what you are looking for as in performance. My GSI i have had for 3 years and i love it. When you are on the motorway up and running at most higher speeds i can drop down a gear and yes it will fly. I confirm at 130 it will pull up to 160mph(limiter off)no problem.

A little while ago a few of us went to Santa Pod and raced on the track. I will tell you now DO NOT UNDER ESTIMATE the Diesels. I had a race OR compared my times to Dean(plasma) who has a 1.9 CDTI (888 remap)and he beat me twice. Also the V6 deisels(remapped ones only) also out performed me in the 1/4 mile. A few 3.2 GSI's went and it was the same for them.!!

If i had not spent a huge amount of money on my car i would consider having a deisel(must be remapped). When you are not driving like a **** the fuel comsuption is far better than the petrols. How often on the motorway do you think ?ohh i will now put my foot down at 130 just to prove a point.

Enough said...........you make your own mind up

If you speak to any seasoned Vauxhall Technician he/she will tell you to steer well clear of any CDTi engine (even the little 1.3), they hate them.

I have a CDTi 150 and I'm very happy with it, but then again I do 30k miles a year so I had no choice in going for a diesel. In standard form they are very good engines but tuned up (tuning box or remap) they turn into monsters.

If the car was going to remain standard under the bonnet I'd be going for a 3.0 V6 CDTi for obvious reasons, but if I didn't do the mileage I'd be going for a 3.2 GSi.

To be honest I've never really liked Turbo'd Petrol engines - 'there's no replacement for displacement'.

i remember on the rolling road day we had up in Rainham at Track and Road, Steve was saying that investment being ploughed into diesel technology is huge in comparison to the money going into petrol engines.

unless i was drivng a sports car i don't think i'll be reverting to back to petrol, too damn expensive, plus i love the amount of torque the diesels produce, loads of useable power.

I know a couple of guys that have none Veccy diesel cars nore are they V6's and they wish they had gone for pertol or a bigger diesel.....

Have thought about getting a petrol but I dont do enough miles to get any bennefit from them........

Think its also the size of diesel that makes all the difference.
