    Question Insignia Elite

Been sniffing around for possibly a new car & had a look at an elite model Insignia tourer 160 CDTI yesterday and was impressed with the spec (fully loaded the salesman said).
But 1 thing i've not heard of was a roadside camera ???
There was a camera by the rearview mirror which apparently does something with road signs ?

Can anyone enlighten me please ?

Just found the answer to my own question !!!

Insignia First – New Vauxhall Technology

Vauxhall will be the first to introduce a front camera system for improved safety on the new Insignia.
Traffic Sign Recognition, which reads road signs and displays them on the instrument panel, and Lane Departure Warning, which alerts drivers when they unintentionally veer out of their lane, will be available in early 2009.
The two systems improve driving safety, reduce stress and can even prevent costly speeding tickets.
Known as the Front Camera System, is located between the windscreen and the rear-view mirror. Not much bigger than a mobile phone, the technology can take 30 pictures per second by detecting road signs and road markings. Two signal processors filter and read the photos to ensure that drivers receive only essential information on which they can then act.
The Lane Departure Warning technology works by reading traffic lanes and recording a driver’s normal lane-changing behaviour.
If any deviation is detected, an audible and visual warning is sent from the instrument panel, preventing hazardous situations, such as a driver falling asleep at the wheel.
The Front Camera System, featuring Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane Departure Warning will be available as an option on the new Insignia, with other Vauxhall models benefiting from the system in future.

Posts the speed of the current road on the dash by scanning road signs. Pretty handy. Can't wait till it reaches our shores.
