    Default SRi Tyre pressure advise

    Hi Folks,

I have a lot of motorway driving ahead of me over the weekend (Plymouth to Swansea = 187miles) so going to make sure tyre pressures are ok plus the usual fluid checks.

The boot is going to be full of baby things as we are staying overnight at a friends and its a military operation when you have a 7 month old!

Whats the best pressure to have for motorway driving? I know it says in the book but a remember a few people suggesting other tyre pressures that gave better results.

I have the standard SRi wheels from 2002. I think the tyre size is 215/55/R17.

    Any advice welcome.

I put up to 38psi in mine, although it's a Siggy 150 CDTi.
Kids and a full boot you can put them up higher than normal, but look on the tyres for the max psi and don't go more than 10% less than this, i.e. 44psi max (10% = 4.4psi), so try 39.6psi MAX.

As a rule of thumb, deduct 15-20% off the max figure, but the higher you go, the harder the ride is.

Try a few psi at a time and find what's best for you.

Also, if you tend to drive on town road, with pot holes, speed humps etc, then best not to go too high.

    Best of luck.

its a guessing game really unless you know the exact weights over the rear axle as the calculation is based on weight to psi to calculate the correct tyre 'footprint' on the road. front always stay the same as far as i know though and I usually go up by 5psi on the rear with a full load as i think the vx advice seems a bit extreme (45 or 47psi on the rear iirc).

Just popped out to see what it says on the tyre. I have 215/50/R17 91W. The max PSI is 51.

So Really the maximum psi I should use is 45 which is a happy coincidence as the Manual says that the Rear tyres (when fully loaded) should be 45psi.

    I'm going to go with:

    FRONT - 36psi
    REAR - 45psi.

At the moment I'm currently running a bit low at 32psi front and rear. The Manual recommends 35psi front and rear for normal loads.

Unfortunately the roads around my way are terrible and its a hard ride because its an SRI with the sports suspension. I'll defiantly have to drop it back down when we get home otherwise my fillings will fall out!!!

You'll find the roads in Swansea not much better. Safe trip.
