Default Vectra C 3.0 V6 CDTi warm up time???

    Hi

just picked up my Vec today. I've noticed it took a good 20mins for the temp needle to get up near operating temp!!

How long should it normally take if everything is running ok?

I know a faulty thermostat can increase warm up time so was thinking it could be that if there is a fault as i've had that prob with other cars in the past!!

Depending on exterior temperature and the type of initial journey, can typically be up to 10 miles at 50mph, say about 10 minutes

If you are driving locally at 30mph, with the heater on at full temperature and setting it may take up 30 minutes
However as soon as you stop and/or turn the heater back to setting 2 then the normal 10 minutes would appear normal

Well diesels run cold naturally and it's not exactly a warm day.but I'd expect a reasonable temp within 5 minutes normal driving.... definitely within 10 !

yeh it was around town type driving!! the heater temp was on about 3/4 & the fan was on 1!!

I'm not 1 for having the fans on full blast!! Hate being too warm in a car & i'd gone out with my northface snow boarding jacket on so would cook if it got warm in the car!!

that's what i thought. Gonna buy a thermostat & antifreeze anyways as they're usually easy to fit. Had to do the thermostat on both my Vec B's!! Hardest part was getting to the hose clip on the bottom rad hose!!

Even with the car over my pit it was a nightmare. The part of the clip i need to nip in with the molegrips was facing the front of the car so the only way you could really get to it was by taking the front bumper off!!

I could've cut the clip off if i was careful but don't have a dremel, just a normal grinder & couldn't get that in!! Just ordered a dremel, well, a draper type version!!

Think i'll have a nip outside while it's stopped raining & have a nosey where everything is & what access is like!!

the way i check is if you go on the motorway and the needle drops to 70-75 then you need a new thermostat

    very helpful that mate!! thanks!!

I've just ordered some more comma xstream g30 red antifreeze. Gonna do the thermostat anyways, i like tinkering with cars & the parts aren't expensive so it gives me an excuse to tinker!!

    Not on a 3.0 V6 CDTI
The engine should only reach 85'C and can drop to 75'C at normal Motorway speed
It should then return to 85'C as soon as you stop (and quite abruptly too!)

However, if you are using the internal heater at full settings, this can also remove heat from the system; it seems to be rather efficient in the 3.0 V6 CDTI

I'm sorry, i have to disagree with that! mine never did that, ever! No matter what the outside temp was it would take about 5 miles to warm up and then hold its temp. IIRC the needle was vertical.

Also ,the heater never used to sap heat from mine.
