Default info on vectra dti vs cdti??

    hey guys,
im new here and thinking about getting a vectra c, pre facelift model possibly the 1.9 cdti (120) but not sure yet. I have bout €5000 (bout £3000 plus vrt here in ireland) so will have to get a high enough milage one.

I have been getting lots of info from other threads about the cdti and its problems but not so much about the dti, unfortunately the search engine for the site wont search dti because there are not enough letters in it, maybe im doing it wrong???

There seems to be some expensive problems with the 1.9 cdti both 120 and 150 versions depending on whos post you read but havent seen as much about the 2.0 dti.

So what do you guys think, is the 2.0 dti a safer/less expensive option to fix??

I have been told by 2 different mechanics to stay away from opel/vauxhall's altogether because they are trouble but I have to say im really liking what some people on this site have done with the pre facelift models with some pretty straight forward mods e.g alloys, spoiler. But im starting college next september so i cant be buying something thats going to cost a fortune to fix.

I know most modern cars need to be plugged in by pro's to asses problems so most moden cars will cost a few quid to fix anyway.

    Any ideas?????

Get a dti. They have far fewer issues.

Go for the 2.2dti instead of the 2.0dti.
    2.2 is 123bhp and the 2.0 is 98bhp.

The DTI's are 5 speed so feels more like a petrol car when driving.

They are both pretty reliable engines. They suffer the same issues that most diesels do e.g. You need to clean the EGR and Boost sensor every so often otherwise things start getting a bit lumpy.

The other things the DTI's suffer from are inter cooler hoses splitting due to Vauxhall using cheap rubber. Silicone can be bought on eBay as replacements.

Vacuum pipes can also crack on the rubber joins but again these can easily be replaced with silicone ones off eBay for £6. This issue hits the 1.9's as well but there vacuum pipes are about 20cm long whereas you'll need 3 meters fit the DTI's.

Here is a pic of the engine bay with the fore-mentioned hot spots circled.

I have a 2.2 DTI Signum design and I love it. High spec good miles/gallon and still has a little poke when its floored. I think the Siggy looks a better car and you get more for your money as standard.

the 2.2 and 2.0 dti engines are normally bombproof but they are old and slow the cdti engines yes do have problems but are more powerfull and give fantastic mpg just make a note of what items usually play up and look for these when viewing fella trust me my cdti will blow a 2.2 dti into last week

Yeah it will, but you will pull into the dealers for another fault and the dti will cruise past! Tortoise and the hare me thinks

If you do go to view a cdti, take a barge pole just in case!

1.9 cdti 0-60 manual = 8.8sec 2.2Dti 9.8sec only one second between the two on paper. (However the DTI engine is stronger= less time in the garage lol) and they often have more bhp than the standard 123 when they leave the factory. In my experiance with my siggy. The 1.9cdti and the 2.2 dti are on a par speed wise. Every vec 1.9 147bhp that has tried to "blow me into next week" has not been able to. they are to close speed wise to make any real difference on the motor way or every day driving.
The only thing with the DTI is the limitations it has when comming to remaps etc It can't be easily done due to the fule pump.
Thats opend a can of worms.......

Had a vec b 2.2dti, a vec c 2.0 dti & now a 1.9cdti... can't knock any of the motors tbh they have all served me well.
All motors have issues at some point, if you can afford a cdti then go for it... Just shop around & get the best your budget allows
