2.2DTi Starting Issue

Hey all,

Following on from threads last year I wondered if anyone else was getting their starting issues back now the weather is a touch warmer.

In short now my glowplugs are not preheating as the weather is over 5deg now, the engine is turning over for ages before firing. It's in fact worse than before winter started! When the glowplugs do preheat it starts on the key!

Has anyone any idea what this could be? I've changed my battery which helped, and thermostat this winter but the problem is back again. I'm hoping it's not going to be a compression issue as it starts perfectly when pre-heated.

I really wanna get it sorted as I've decided to keep the car another couple of years....

No - would like to but it's one of them costs you only do when it's broke.

Could be the problem as i changed both battery and starter and after that it was fine and afaik its still turning over fine

Did you change it yourself ie Is it an easy job, and approx how much was that (if you don't mind me asking).

Changed myself mate but it was a pig of a job iirc you can get them on ebay for around £60

Thanks for the offer BigMac, unfortunately I won't be and will have to put it off a little while. However what are you like at changing the radiator on the DTi?? lol.

I looked on ebay and found the ones you mention; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...#ht_629wt_1139 , when I get a bit of time I may have a go at this so will keep you posted.

mine still not great at starting either so i just fitted a baco switch to the tempreture switch to bring on the glow plugs and have it fitted in the space below the heater controls

nice idea - I'm gonna change my temp sensor shortly but don't think it'll help. For £9 off ebay worth a go.

dont bother changing it mine never made a difference
