Question Service interval for 3.2 V6 timing belt

    Hi all,

My 3.2 V6 owner's manual states that the timing belt is supposed to be replaced at 60k km intervals. I just noticed a post on a German forum that seems to suggest that theirs have 120k km service intervals.

Just curious to know what everyone else's manual says?

    Ta.

    S#d the manual...

I change mine every 30'000 miles regardless..

the belt kit is cheaper than a new engine. VX did try to extend the service intervals of the belts before. They were then deluged with failures of the belt and rollers and swiftly went back to the old intervals..

I agree. There's far too much that gets really bu99ered up if the belt snaps.

I just thought it strange that the Vectra B belts changed from 120k to 60k whereas the opoosite seems to have happened for the Vectra C

just trying their luck again i suppose steve,

they may want to extend it to overcome having to do a belt while under the 3 years warranty..

personally, i think it's a disaster waiting to happen

Yep, was a problem on the Vec B V6's after they halved the interval without telling anyone !!! (well owners anyway !!!)
About the earliest failure I have ever heard of on the V6 is just over the 50K mark, Vx dropped the interval from 80K to 40K on the Vec B, so I would personally go with 40K change interval, you should be perfectly safe.
And yes, fit the whole kit, rollers as well, not just a belt.

Whay Mark said, 30 - 40k tops, I had a V6 Omega that had 80k belt on it, wouldn't trust it myself, 2.5k for a rebuild, and have you seen a Vx standard warrenty that goes to 80k yet?

My parents serviced their V6 3.2 a month ago, and the service-paper said 120k km interval for the belt.

That's around 75K miles, and judging from the Vec B experience, that is really pushing your luck !!!
You're a braver man than me, 75-80K miles is an awful long time to leave a belt IMO !!!
More like half that if you want to be safe.
