The Other week i got the warning light on the dash saying check radiator water, so i had a look and it was about 2 inch under the maximum line on the water tank. 2 days later the light came on again, so i checked it and it seems to be loosing the same amount of water each time Hope this isnt a head gasket fault. ive checked the top of the oil cap and there doesnt seem to be cloudy oil in there. Its ok for about 2/3 days but then needs topping up. also on start up it sounds a bit ruff, like a tinny noise.. Hope someone could help.

Have you checked all the hoses and rad for leaks?

yeh, theres no obvious signs of leaking underneath the car when ive had a look. i cant really get to the rad to check properly as its behind the intercooler and what not. all the pipes from the tank to the rad are ok..

When anti freeze dries it leaves a tell tale mark. Just look for that around the rad.

the water could also be going in to the cylinders turning it to steam via a knackered head gasket and burning the water into the atmosphere through the exhaust.
the only way to check this is to do a pressure test on the engine.
also if it is going into the cylinders when you turn it off water will sit until you next start it causing poor starting and the tin sounding noise as engine not firing properly.

The Engine seems to be firing fine.. it does smoke abit on start up but soon as its warmed up it seems fine.. as for the tin noise this also disapears after about 7 mins once the cars warmed up.. cheers

There is a large union below the coolant tank that has several pipes coming to one joint. Mine is leaking from here and it's obvious as the tell tale red markings are left on top of the gearbox by the dried out coolant. Might be worth a look.
