Default Been to sea and survived!!!!!

Well I'm Back!!! and most importatntly I had a reasonably good time.

I drove up to Inverary on Tuesday last to stop overnight. The weather through Scotland was poor to say the least and I discovered at Glasgow the hire car's windscreen wipers didn't work. So I changed cars with Avis only to discover the Sat nav didn't like Renauilt windscreens! So I got a little lost!

Next morning opened to curtains to this :

At midday a boat from the ship picked us up and took us out into the loch for boarding :

    Then I found me bed:

I was on first and chose the bottom bunk! For scale, the bed above was the distance from my elbow to the end of my fingers! Every time I turned over I hit it with my arm or shoulder.

Any way set out to see later that night and went full chat to about 300 miles off Scotland (300 miles south of Iceland)

Chucked up on the first night as the ship was bouncing at that speed. But after that I was fine!

This is part of the kit I work on :

    With me!

After the trial we met up with HMS Northumberland. Some of our team had to head over there for a second sea trial.....Glad I wasn't one of em :

Then two day voyage back to Portsmouth...........No Golden rivets or missing soap! We were blessed with the best weather we'd had for a sea tial to date.

    PS the trial failed!

Cheers all. It amazes me sometimes the effects I can get out of my point and shoot camera.

Yes we will have to re-run the trial some time. The failures where for the most minor, But we don't get nearly passed! We had four "system faults" and 7 others that included thing like the paint on the deck peeling! We fixed one fault one the way home but couldn't prove it as the trial was over.

We didn't use a cargo net in the end, We had a rope ladder and two ropes. You haul yourself up on the ropes (one in each hand) and put ya feet on the ladder. Even in the loch that was scary. Imagine climbing onto the the roof of a house in that gear in that manor!!!! Glad I didn't do the sea transfer. It took almost and hour and a half to get the first person into the sea boat!
