    Default Drop Link already?!

I've got a knocking coming from the front passenger side.

My mate whos a mechanic had a quick look & said its the drop link.

BUT My cars a 58 plate, & has done 11,800 miles!! So.

Will Vauxhall cover this under warrenty?

Plus why the hell has it gone so quick!

Is the drop link actually failed, worn, or excessive movement?

Yes, it should be covered by OE warranty
Failed due to wear and tear probably, it's not the mileage it is the time, probably lots of local roads
However, ask the dealership to find the cause, as often a component failure is the sign of a more serious issue

Not really, any part can fail at any time, but normally once the car is over 12 months old, and once you get to three years old the failure rates accelerate

    Basically its knocking when driving.

I should hope its not another part causing the failure because its only attached the anti roll bar?!

How many tyres have you bought in this time and mileage?
What other parts have been replaced under warranty?

I've had parts replaced within the first year of ownership, but they are usually electrical parts
On my previous Vectra the rear bumper was replaced due to a manufacturing and fitting defect

At just over two years old I would expect at least one suspension component failure, shame it is the cheapest of them all!

My car is a 56 plate and its got 48000 miles coming up and I have never had a droplink replaced which really surprises me as the estate I live on is full of Speed Humps and the roads in general are full of potholes. I bought the car when it was 8 months old and 11000 miles on the clock so maybe it had one before my ownership but as said, never with me but my last car was a 04 Ford Galaxy and that ate Droplinks all the time

Same with our 55 reg Facelift Club Hatch..just over 5 years old..it's on 48.6K miles.....bought it with 3933 miles on the clock & 8 months old 4 1/2 years ago.

No advisories on drop links or suspension issues on MOT in December 2010...

However..I've just become aware of an infrequent & random knock/tapping noise...a bit like the exhaust tapping the bodywork somewhere on the off side...or a socket bit banging around somewhere.

Driven it up onto ramps front & rear...crawled underneath checked around & banged the exhaust to see if it hit the bodywork to no avail....neither did anything else seem loose...

    Puzzled at the moment...

Wheels off next to check further......

    Cheers

My drop links are about to become worn out, play reported on nearside, at 5 years old / 115K miles
I am just waiting for the offside one to also perish
Both will be replaced at next service (now due)

As above, they can wear out at any time
