Default Help needed on starting car when cold....

Any advice on what to check next on my vectra 1.8 Ls 2003.....over the last couple of weeks when I start car it revs up to 2500 revs then idles erratically for about 5 mins..if I try to drive the car before it settles it is really rough and hesitates...
I have changed the plugs, cleaned out the throttle body and will do the maf tomorrow also couldn't find any air leaks....once the car is warm it is fine and idles about 750 and drives normally...
I have had the P0170 fault code..Fuel trim malfunction (Bank 1) when the emissions light came on
will get a look at exhaust to see if there are any leaks

Could it be the coolant temperature sensor? or mabey the automatic choke...had it in garage and they said it was fine any time they started it..
    or anything else...
    Thanks

oops think I should have put this in the technical section Sorry.x

    thanks

got an error code PO170 Fuel Correction Bank 1 Malfunction. They did not reset it or anything as said should take to main stealer as may be a lamba sensor

    what mileage are you on?

It was serviced etc prior to me buying it after a few months I got a P0170 fuel trim bank 1 error, I was told by a local garage to replace the MAF, so I put in a Bosch MAF. Most of my driving is local and from £20's worth of fuel I am lucky to get 80 miles.

Is that about right or could it be one of the other sensors? A friend recommended putting Cataclean in, to improve the fuel economy.

In two mins whether to try this stuff, or whether I should get a proper diagnostics done from HI-Q as the P0170 code was read using one of the RAC readers from Argos.

these are a few posts ive found for you

    Hi thanks
I have noticed not getting as many miles as I did before...car has done 64,000 miles.and the outer skin on the back of the exhaust is falling off.....the code was read on an OBD2... I just cleared the code...:-) we had a good vauxhall garage here but it was in difficulties and now Peugeot have taken over the franchise and there is no way I would put my car there..too long a story..lol..
my driving is just been local as got a 6 month old baby ...will need to give car a good run ...will have a look and try the lambda sensor...

    Cheers

. it's the lambda sensor saying it's getting out of range values, so is flagging a code...

    i'd swap the lambda

this was off a post on another thread

    hope this helps

I had not had my VEC-C 1.8 long it was on about 56,000 then,, and my car went the same,, harder to start and tick over high then erratic, once warm it was fine,, I put a strong ish measure of redex in a full tank and took car for a good 30 mile blast,, sorted,,, this problem has never come back, perhaps I was lucky,

    hi abhinn
before you look a the lambda sensor i found a post on here for you which said ive got code po170:

    All sorted!

Bought a £3 can of electrical contact cleaner and cleaned the MAF, and replaced the coolant temp sensor for £8

Idles perfectly and runs like a dream.

try this first and member clomp said redex also helped him

as clomp always says try the cheap fixes first
