    Default Robbing bar stewards!!

Just been to DSG Vauxhall in Barrow for a quote for a Inlet manifold as i have the dreaded broken swirl pot bar!

I put a case for them about it being a design fault and being vauxhalls fault, not mine. Told em about this forum with its many members, polite threat of trading standards....all to no avail. Not going to contribute or give a goodwill gesture. They wanted over £1000 for it.

Well....they aint getting it! Sourced a manifold off Ebay, brand new and correct part number for £190. Been to my local independant garage and they were at a loss of what to charge and how long it should take.

In the end they said *?(k it, we'll charge same as Vauxhall as long as i supply the parts. Its a 6.5hr job aint it?

So looks like my inlet manifold is gonna get swapped for about £350.

Well dissapointed with Vauxhall. Its their fault this is happening afterall.

Any advice appreciated on where to go now vauxhall washed their hands, and advice on what to do in changing it would be helpful.

Deisel specialist if you can't find another dealer. Should cost about £700.

Did you say that the local indendent garage has agreed to charge the same labour rate as the main dealer? They must have closed up for the day after you left, to celebrate christmas coming early...

Nooooo! They said they'd charge for 6.5 hours...NOT at £80 that VX charge. Think its about £17-20.

Would it be cheaper trying to get a Manifold off Fiat?

I'm at a loss with Vauxhall on their endless design faults being the financial burden of the customer. The news make a huge deal of all these Toyota recalls,.. but I praise their balls for standing up and admitting design faults and fixing at their own cost.

Vauxhal could learn a thing or too here, but no doubt will bury their heads in the sand... The East will take a massive market before long and Vauxhall still won't understand why...

I had mine done on Monday, a mate (mechanic) fitted it with new timing belt kit, water pump, auxillary belt and a new thermostat. It was the best part of 8 hours work due to slight problem with leaky pipes, he charged me £250.00 but I gave him £300, because he's very meticulous about his work and always does a top job, plus it was blowing a gale and freezing. The car is much more responsive and a hell of alot quicker now. The water pump was close to failing aswell after 65,000 miles, so depending on the mileage of yours I'd consider changing that aswell whilst it's all apart.

Think the water pump will be changed too then. Thanks for the advice!

    Mines done 85k on a '05'.

Its a pity because vauxhall could of had a fantastice car, but they scrimped and released it with design faults.

I've changed 3rd inj connector and 2 injector seals in the 4 weeks i've had it!! All dodgy Vauxhall design!

It'll me a minter when i'm finished though.

    Already planning a re-map!! :-D

Yes, but apparently some people died as a result of the Toyota brake failure problems.

That hourly rate is very low - you should double check it with them - even bodyshops charge more than that, and their rates are lower than mechanics' rates. I doubt Fiat will be able to beat the ebay price BTW.
