I had one of these for 4 years, superb car, fast and held the road so well

It used to blow the head gasket once a month whilst still under warranty. I ended up doing it myself properly. Dealer did'nt bother checking the head I had it skimmed, sorted it once and for all
Gearbox decided to throw it's contents through the side of the casing too, that was quite scary Stuck a 1.8SRi box in it with shorter gearing. Would fly to 100mph then that was it...........Still loved it though

Just reading the blurb for the 130:

The working class hero of its day, the SRi 130 had a 0-60 time of 8.2 secs and a top speed of 117mph, for £9999! A close ratio gearbox ensured the 130BHP was useable, stiffened suspension and larger 195/60-14 tyres kept the whole thing on the black stuff. The SRi130 was only produced for two years before the Cavalier Mk111 was announced in 1988.

0-60 in 8.2 secs!!!! Nowadays you need about 175bhp to get that sort of acceration in a Vec (e.g. 2.0T Vec, 3.0 CDTi). Mind you todays cars get a higher top end. I assume because of the better drag co-efficents.
