Default Judgement Day For The Vectra!

Right, if you have been listening to my rants for the last couple of weeks you will already know the story but if you dont it goes like this:

Sold my 3.2 GSI and bought a 1.9 150 sri facelift

Swirl valve linkage has gone on it and dont know whether to:

    1. temporarily fix it and sell it
    2. temporarily fix it and keep it
    3. new inlet manifold and keep it

If i was to sell it i dont know what car i should get next i am thinking either:

    Vectra 3.0 CDTI
    Signum 2.0 T
Or something that isnt a vauxhall

If i was to keep the car i would probably get it mapped

    Whats your thoughts?

If you kept it, and remapped it youd end up with more ALOT more torque than your old 3.2, more than the 3.0 cdti as they cant be reliably mapped.

I know how you feel, i had a 3.0 converted Vec GSI B, a 400bhp Monaro, then a Golf MK5 R32.... then the cdti. It wasnt till I mapped her that i realised how good it was! That 300+lb torque from just under 2000rpm to just past 4000rpm is awesome! Its a lot more punchy and faster midrange with all but the monaro! But even then, the power delivery of a mapped cdti is so satisfying, i really love it and dont miss any of my old V engined cars other than the noise!

And for what its worth, ive had my current vec up against a 3.2 GSI C, im being truely honest, it wasnt till illegal motorway speeds than the GSI passed me... point to point, out of the bends, slip roads on motorways, upto 100mph etc it simply couldnt touch me! Its always something i desbuted strongly when i had my V6s, but its just sadly true.....

Keep it, get it mapped, and create even more stress on some of ill-designed parts...? Fix it by either method, be shot of it, get something more reliable.

I suppose you could do a tempory fix then sell that way we have another new member on the forum complaining about how unreliable the CDTi is. If the buyer checked the car out before purchase then perhaps would not get the amount of posts regarding unreliabilitly that we do.

I would get it fixed and keep it and get it remapped and then keep the mods going......

Bin it and get a 2.0t. Fixed or not the 1.9 has A LOT of issues where the 2.0t is a much more reliable lump. With the cost of repairs it will probably take over 15k in fuel savings to get your money back.

The joys of motoring... if you get shut you could end up with something far worse!

You pays ya money & takes a chance... I'm happy with mine even though it cost me a new alt the other week & is going for timing belt, water pump & thermostat on Monday... then i will have it mapped at Rs-tuning leeds
