Default EML 2.0T Lambda or CAT

    Hi guys,

On my way to work this morning, and whilst slowly moving towards a roundabout, the EML came on.

Got home and put it on diagnostics and came up with the following:

    - P0138 - 02 Sensor Circuit High Volts (bank 1 sensor 2)

    - P0420 - Catalyst Efficiency below threshold (bank 1)

Thought at first it was going to be a straight forward "duff lambda sensor" BUT:

When looking at the live data, the 2nd lambda sensor was stuck reading 1.250 mV. I believe the EML is activated if it stays above 0.999mV for a length of time. The front O2 sensor reading was moving up and down as per normal.

I then reset the codes thinking I would give it one last chance before buying a new lambda, and the sensor suddenly sprang to life, with the Mv fluctuating nicely.

I have since been on several slow and "spirited" drives and the EML has not reappeared and the logged data shows the O2 sensor seems to be working correctly.

Anyone have any ideas? Im reluctant to say its "just one of them things"

Is it likely the O2 sensor is on its way out? or CAT?

    Thanks in advance,
    Alan

As a former 2.0T owner I would agree. If it doesn't re-occur it is a glitch. Glitches are not uncommon on all engines.

I have just posted a topic in the 'general chat' section about a product that got my dad's motor through the MOT emissions test for £10. Have a look at that?

I've got the same P0138 at the moment, service coming up so been driving with same code for 3 weeks. No biggy just a sensor. I cancelled it with my Fault code reader and it came back a couple of days later.

    Will sort it at service.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies! The EML stayed off for a few days, and then came back on again, then stayed off for a day then back again.

P0138 Keeps returning, not had P0420 again since the first time.

On live data logging, the 2nd O2 sensor keeps sticking at 1.265v every now and then, and this is what brings on the EML. SO looks like ill need a new lambda.

Rubbish vauxhalls, waste of money, crap cars etc etc all that and the other lol. ONLY JOKING. Am picking up a new lambda in the morning so hopefully all will be back to normal

    Thanks,
    Alan
