Unhappy Curry smell and losing coolant????

On the way to work this morning could smell what i describe as a takeway curry, but my windowscreens are all clear. After some time in the traffic my LOW COOLANT LEVEL light came on, at work checked the level it was very low and i could see steam coming from the back of the engine. Checked it all over tonight and found this " a plastic pipe part of the header tank had broken off", will have to source one tomorrow quickly from the dealers, as i am out on Sunday morning at Warrington.....

There only about £20 from the dealer, think you need to swap over the level sensor though.

Thanks DasArab noted the part number down and will get on to the dealers tomorrow. If the windowscreens become misted up it would have mean,t possible heater matrix failure, so glad it was,nt as my car as full climate control....

Its the smell like a "take away curry" from inside the car that would be worrying. When the heater matrix begins to leak it leaks into the heater box behind the dashboard facia, because the leaking coolant is very hot and steamy. The steamy vapour is carried along in the air flow from the ventalation fan and out through the heater vents to condensate on the windowscreens inside the car. The rest of the leaking coolant will find its way out of the heater box soaking the footwell carpets this can be clearly seen by pushing your fingers into the carpets....

Should have a Nissan Almera, 'curry hook' for takeaways fitted as standard in the passenger footwell. LOL
