Exclamation Serious Gearbox problem or Replacement?

I had my car serviced today, one of the things to do on the list were to get the transmission oil flushed & get 2.4L of the stuff in there.

Once the mechanic got the car on the ramp to do it, he noticed that theres is a grinding noise coming from the gearbox whilst obviously it was idling.

For this reason he did not carry out the flush & replacement as he said it could cause further problems. He said it sounds like the bearings but he is not 100% sure I am going to see if MR Clutches can check the noise & see if they can come to a conclusion rather then strip it and then find the fault and end up having to purchase a second hand / reconditioned one.

My car has been making a noise when accelerator has been down in gear, I have always thought it was the engine mounts or something small, do you the think the noise could have been the gear ?

WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO - SHOULD IT BE THAT THE GEAR IS MAKING THE NOISE? BUY A RECONDITIONED GEAR BOX / SECOND HAND / OR TAKE THE CHANCE GET THE GEARBOX STRIPPED AND SEE IF IT CAN BE RESOLVED STRIPPING INVOLVES SERIOUS CHARGES LOL.[

would it per chance be the dmf rattling and not the gearbox bearings? gearbox's on Veccy and Signum are generally up to the job and fault free, more so than a dmf.

That's the DPF, your car has a DMF trust me. Has it been rattling? How is it when changing gear?

    They don't only diesels have them. 1.8, 1.8VVT, 2.2, 2.2Direct certainly don't have them.

The 2.0T may due to torque but I doubt that.

2.0T engines do have a DMF.. trust me on that one

What engine does the Elahi_786 have? if the mechanic had checked/changed the oil he could have checked to see if their was any bits (filings) in it.. he has left you in limbo really, not very helpful.. you can pick up a secondhand f40 gearbox for about £250 delivered.. I have heard both good and bad things about MrClutch but I am not sure if they will offer any guarantee if your fitting a secondhand unit... thats your call...

I did single it out. He has a 1.9. Goes without saying as soon as DMF is mentioned.
