Default why is my car so bad on fuel

Right iv got a 52 plate vectra c on around 98k miles its a 2.0dti.

Iv posted before about my car being so slow and crap on fuel and most people recomended i have a service.

Had a full service on the car around 2/3 weeks ago and its no better at all.
The slow bit maybe becuase its only 100bhp so i dont really think it should quick just alot quicker then my old 1.6 astra.

Its the fuel prices that are really starting to empty my pockets.
I currently get around 29mpg which is shocking around 300 miles to a full tank.

I dont really drive motorways alot, once a week so dont expect to get the best but expect to get alot better then i currently am.

One of the glow plugs has snapped so sometimes while driving the car and spanner light comes on, had the car on the computer and only thing it reads is clutch switch and glow plug error.

Could the glow plug really affect the car this much?

Thanks any help would be great

If I act like an old man, Id say lighten your right foot.
The only other option is to buy something small and eco friendly bud, the fuel prices are not going to be getting better.

We are all in the same boat.

Why does your car only do around 29mpg? When it is suppose to be doing around 45. If you think about it it is a huge difference. I dont actually put my foot down to be honist with you. If im getting an average of 30mph and im suppose to be getting around 45 its like 1/3 that is going somewhere.

If you think about it this way im paying 60 quid for fuel when i should only be paying 40.

Getting 300 miles to a tank when i should be getting 450.

The snapped glow plug should only affect starting, as it is not needed once going and warmish.

my cdti 1.9 08 plate with 30k on the clock would usually give me 32mpg if i was pushing her hard all of the time, so i honestly think that its a combination of age, driving style and roads used. Whats the stats on urban driving for your engine?

    Hows the water/coolant temperature??

A broken thermostat will give you poor MPG.

Have you noticed any loss in performance??

How has the plug snapped? Broken or snapped completely off? My thinking there is loss of compression possibly but that is pushing it.

You are not on motorways, then I would say that's a good portion of the reason.

Does the turbo spool up fine? it's not uncommon for the turbo actuator to go on the 2.0DTI's. It will hinder fuel economy as well as performance.

Instead of approaching corners and putting it into 2nd gear, like your taught when learning to drive, put it into 3rd as above driving style, diesels have enought torque to use a higher gear.
i have 1.9 cdti 2006 its the sri with 150 bhp and im getting an easy 48 average, usually alot more than that and thats not me driving like a granny either,
Also once i Re-Map it im hoping for a few more :-)
