Looking at changing my 05 150 Sri (pre facelift) for a 58 plate 1.8 Sri.
Any pointers on anything I should be aware of to keep a look out for? Done around 20000.
Cheers all.

To be honest mate the 1.8 VVT is a solid motor. There are not too many things to go wrong. Just check to make sure it's has it's oil changed regularly (should have been done 3 times for that mileage) and listen for any knocks or rattles.
Just one question, are you sure your pre-face SRi was a 150?
The VVTi only pushes out 140 and the tuning options are pretty limited, you might scrape 150 with a K&N fitted and a decent exhaust system.
Edit:-Check the engine gets up to operating temp (some have dodgy thermostats) and make sure the handbrake pulls up firm just after you have stopped the car. The brake pistons sometimes have a habit of sticking.

Yes the current set of wheels a diesel 1.9 (150) and a money pit!
Oh yeah, I thought you meant the 1.8 non VVT.
Tbh if your not doing loads of miles, the 1.8 is a really good buy.
I commute a 60 mile round trip every day in mine, mostly motorway and it's fine.
as long as you do the cambelt, there should not be any huge bills either
as said a solid motor, my vec is an 04 1.8, but drive mates 57 vvt 1.8, its a bit higher geared than mine 2700 rpm for 70 mph, so he gets good Mway mpg, at 20,000 mile the cam belt wont be due for a while the vvt has a longer life span than the none vvt,, keep up on oil change/filters/ plugs,,I say plugs as I have found a few vecs that seem heavy on juice, in my case plugs only done 12,000 mile but changed them anyway as mpg had drop a bit, put bosch super in and all is now ok. all I have spent on mine is mainly service stuff.
Cheers for the info ..... Taken the plunge and bought a black 58 plate 1.8 VVTI Sri.
Taken out for a run today, totally different to the 1.9 150 but a very nice drive. Enough minor changes inside to give the car a fresh feel to!
The facelift alloys fitted to my current car mint (bar one) ..... 1.8's scuffed so VX changing them over for me and refurbing the scuffed one to.
Sort out the readies and hopefully have on road next few days.
good buy, sound engine. Love mine, hoping for a remap soon. Its on the Rolling Road on the 20th, see what its putting out. Quite a pokey engine for a 1.8
As others have said, should be a good buy for you. Been very happy with mine with no problems. Worth doing airbox mod and fitting a K&N filter or something, just seems to liven it up a little.
Thought i would get my neb in. I find my 1.8vvti boring as hell. Very slow for the mpg i get (35-36) and i do mostly motorways and it sturggles to cope with the weight of the car
Outlaw what are you hoping to get from a remap power wise? Unless you are running a very serious set up i personally dont think a remap is worth it, but thats just my opinion of course.
