First port of call is check the vacuum and boost hoses. Fail in that the EGR valve is jammed open. I would plump for the EGR personally as when it jammed open there aren't usually any warming lights on.

Good way to worry someone, if it may just be something simple.

I take it the £1 fix never worked then?

Until it is actually diagnosed, look for split hoses. If it is the manifold it will be allowing boost to be lost through the swirl flaps. Split boost hoses usually cause heavy smoking too and this is also the case of a borken manifold depending on how the flaps have jammed shut, and the bearings aren't that bad as to allowing boost to escape.

cheers for the replys, a friend had a look today whos knows his stuff and it baffled him, all the things he expected it wasnt, egr ok, etc, he then accused me of putting petrol in which i know i didnt, he thinks the last fuel was poor quality and we ran the fuel down as low as possible and went to bp and put some ultimate in and after about half hour all is back to normal, so fingers crossed!!! thanks again!!

Have a look at the manifold. Better to check the others and eliminate them earlier.
