Default Doing the ton. When was your first time?

It always used to be the big thing, the first time you hit "the ton", 100mph. (On private roads, obviously!).
My first time must have been on my 1972 Triumph Tiger 650, sometime around 1978. (god, I'm old!)
Nowadays, most cars can do the magic ton without any trouble, so how about the "double metric ton", 200kph, or about 125mph?
I think I must have first hit that speed in one of my Cavaliers -either my "D" reg 1.8GLi or my "F" reg 2.0 GL.

    Ah, memories.....

    Phil

The Ton was in my old Astra 1.3 (Very fast car!!) Used to travel to & from Grimsby alot, 146 miles, usual journey time 1hr 35mins if clear . Melted the brakes on it though, had to have new calipers the lot, there were literally flames once!!

Double ton was in my Cav 2.0sri.

Had a rear blow out in the cav at >120mph Destroyed the wheel & damaged the body as well. Didn't lose control though thank god. If it was the front, different story I reckon. I just coasted down & then gently braked when the speed was lower.

Don't do any such stupidity now, it's honestly not worth it, getting banned or killed.

Get on the Mway, set the cruise. No need for headaches

Cant remember the first 'ton' i ever did, but the double 'ton' was done on my way back from bournemouth in a Peugeot 405 SRi. Good days. Of course nowadays i'd never venture into speeds that great, well not with the pregnant missus and nipper on board.

First time I saw it was with my Uncle in his Cortina, first time I did it was in my first car, a Fiat Mirafiori Sport, did the double metric in that as well, could watch the fuel gauge drop though *lol* I had a Cagive 125 which I imported and had a Kph clock, it was marked up to 220 and I could do 200 on it which wasn`t bad for a 125 !!

My 'first time' was in my Dad's comapny car (1988 Cavalier 1.6 LX) when I was 17 years old. I'd probably been driving for about a week or so. I used to drive that car like I'd stolen it (I'm not bragging or proud of it BTW).

You're right Phil, cars nowadays reach the 100mph mark all too easily. What do we reckon todays equivalent is 140-150mph????

Nissan 300ZX on the autoroute blanche between Geneva and Chamonix in 1997, topped out at a true (RPM based) 150 odd. Same year managed a scary 145 on the fireblade on the same road. All at about 5am when "les flics" are all asleep.

Done it once, won't do it again. Unless I can do a track day somewhere - like the Nurburgring............ Why don't we have a meet there?

I fist hit the ton and then did the double in 1987 in my VW Scirocco, a fantastic car. I have managed a GPS registered 162mph on the Autobahn between Gutersloh and Padderbourn in my 365bhp Sapphire Cosworth. It gets very scary when the street lamp posts flash by you at that speed.

First hit the "Ton" in 1985 at the giddy age of 15 going down the strip in a Hillman imp with a 383 ci V8 and space frame chassis and fiber glass body come to think of it broke the "Double ton" and got blooming close to the "TREBLE" ah those were the days

Of course i dont do anymore than 70 MPH now cos thats illegal !!!!!!!!!!

    Back in a V6 !!!!!!!!!!!! And lovin it !!!

    First time at 100mph = Renault 11 (approx 1986) - sweaty palms

Cars are getting faster, and I'm getting slower..... Funny that !!
