    Default Fitting HID's

Ok, so I'm going to HIDs-Direct on Wednesday to buy them over the counter, then onto my mates car dealer in Wigan to fit them (c/o his garage) I just want to know a few things before I start the job:

    1. What tools will I need?
    2. Will I need to make holes in my headlight covers?
    3. If so, how big?
    4. Where can I hide the ballasts?
    5. How long will the whole job take?
    6. What's the difference (in brightness) between 35w and 50w?
Also, is this the right set I need, I have a 56 Plate SRi CDTi?

    Thanks in advance guys.

    Yep thats the right set.

There is a how2 on this.

Can't comment on the facelift model, as people say you need to remove the bumper. If you do remove the bumper and the headlights themselves there is a nice little spot at the bottom of the headlight to hide the ballast, you will see it as soon as you take them off.

As for time, it depends if you have done this before, if not it will take about an hour.

not a lot of difference in brightness, just a big heat difference.

You will need to drill a 22mm hole in the cover.

DO NOT TURN YOUR LIGHTS ON WITH OUT THE ENGINE ON. IF YOU REMOVE THE SENSOR ON THE AIRBOX, DO NOT TURN YOUR ENGINE ON WITH THIS OFF.

Dont some people hide them in the battery box and near the airbox? Why shouldn't I turn them on without the engine on? Does that mean I cant use the door to door feature anymore?

you can get the passenger side one in the battery box but not the drivers side as the cables arent really long enough

the thing with the engine is them putting a bigger load on the wiring not 100% exactly someone else will be able to clear it up better for you though

People have reported lights not working whilst turning them on while the engine is off, maybe a safety feature. They will rectify after 20 mins or so. Not sure what your door to door feature is. Dont have it on mine lol.

I have hidden my passenger side one in the battery box and you would not know it was there, the driver side was more difficult and I am still looking for a good place to put it. I have it attached to the lower air inlet hose. People have put them both in the wings, not sure how cos I am positive I did not get long enough leads to do this.

My door to door feature is when the drivers door is open and i flash my headlights, my dipped beam comes on for 30 seconds (while i get to my front door) hence "door to door" so would I not be able to use it as the engine would be off?

i fitted mine a few weeks ago (facelift).

as said you will need to drill a hole in yout light covers however around 25mm is best as you need to fit the connector block through the hole

also i read that its best to change your headlight fuse due to you using a more powerful bulb (to a 20w if i remember correctly). i used the 1 for my non-existant sunroof

when i 1st put them in i simply removed the airbox and washer bottle extension but doing it this way i struggled to make the bulbs sit right so in the end i took the bumper off and removed the headlights..... a fair bit of work but makes the difference.

as for the door to door im not sure if that would be a problem. i dont use the feature myself but the HIDs need to charge up and if they are only being put on for brief periods this may result in damage but may not.....

    hope that helps

Erm I cant comment on this mate. I have never used it and did not even know it existed. Hmmmmmm, it is something to do with voltage, I cant see why it would be an issue, but I am sure others will comment. The problem remedies itself after lights off, engine off. So if it was a problem I guess you would never know lol.

on mine (pre face) i only loosened the bumper off by undoing the two screws in each wheel arch to get to the bottom bolt holding in the headlamp.

it was just enough to SQUEEZE my hand into the gap and get a ratchet in there or a spanner depends on what you want to use
