    Red face MPG - again

    Hi guys,

I noticed some weird stuff with my 07 Vectra 1.9 CDTi.

I take the same route on the A3 daily and my fuel consumption varies massibly on a daily basis using the cruise control set to 75mph.

Today I reset the BC before leaving work and had a more or less straight run back with the CC set to 75mph.
I started off nicely with the MPG showing 49.5mpg .... was very happy .... then under the same circumstances (still on the cruise) it started to drop ... all the way down to 36mpg

    Any ideas?

Had the crankshaft sensor changed last week and aparently the EGR valve cleaned. On my way home from the dealer it hit 47mpg straight away, after that I hardly got more then 42.
Sometimes the car feels likes its struggling to accelerate, sometimes it goes nicely.
My dealer said he will put in a new EGR valve this week (just waiting for the part) but is there anything else that should be checked to get a little consistency?

Some say that cruise control saves fuel, but my take on it is its the opposite, try the same journey without cruise.
When you think about ,during normal driving you are lifting on and off on the accell pedal,so when you are travelling down hill for instance you take your foot slightly off the gas,for the very reason that your going downhill, with cruise on there is no compensation for this,so therefore your using more fuel.

How often does that DPF work out then as my fuel comsumption changes on a daily basis?
Have done 1100 miles (say 70% motorway / 30% town and country) since I got the car 3 weeks ago and my average is 37.5mpg

Thanks for that. I was under the impression that that cruise would actually be better as you have a constant speed.
Also, the CC wont accelerate I assume if the car goes downhill and is exactly on the set speed. Right?

Yes ..but if your travelling down hill without the cruise on,if you lifted slightly off the pedal, you would be travelling at the same speed, because of natural momentum..sounds like a whole new debate though.

Appreciate yourr point. Not saying you are wrong and the more I think about, the more I will agree ;o)
Though I doubt that this would make 10mpg of a difference on a 30mile trip
