Question Help - Steering wheel warning sign??

    Hey guys,

Yesterday I was driving down the road and a warning sign came up of a steering wheel with a "!" next to it. Again, this morning when I used the car the steering wheel warning sign came up and then went off.

Any ideas what the problem could be? Is this something to do with powered steering?

    Cheers,

    Hi Mishima
first job check steering oil level,if it's low you will ruin the pump using it with low level, its electric over hydraulic so it may be a water problem from driving through water or power washing.also it may be an early telltale of alternator trouble, hopefully it's one of the first two

Remove right front wheel remove inner plastic protector panel and you will see the dip stick, oil needs to be on max,it's fiddle you may need a small funnel and pipe from inside engine compartment.between bulkhead and air cleaner housing.i use a squeeze bottle and plastic pipe, whatever works for you.

    Default Steering wheel symbol

    Hi Mishima,

If we are talking about the same warning light then it is your brake pad wear sensor.
Give me 5-10 mins and I will post some pic's.

    Regards,

    Adam

    Default Steering wheel symbol.

    I have attached three pic's

    1) Pic 1 - The "steering wheel" pic. I think this is supposed to be a caliper. - Not very obvious is it ??

I can only comment on the front pads as I haven't changed my rear ones yet so I don't know if there is a sensor on the rear as well?
But... On my Vectra C (1.8 LS) front nearside pads there was this wire connected to the outer pad.
The wire is just a loop that light up your dashboard lamp when the loop is broken. The loop is broken because as the pads wear down the plastic wears through until the wire inside breaks.

    2) Pic 2 - The wire that wears out (and doesn't come with replacement EBC pads!!) £7 - 8 off Ebay.

    3) This end goes into the pad to wear out.

    Hope this helps.

Hey mate Thanks for the post, its not that one... I had that one some months ago, this one looks a bit like the MERC badge with the "!" next to it. Pretty similar though those symbols appreciate you tryin to help.

I can tell that getting to this steering wheel bottle is going to be tough!! They always put things in stupid places - behind the bumper/wheel!

Exactly... I think they do this in order for the ordinary punter to get disheartened and end up taking it to the garage and thats where they make the money!
