Default Knocking from front under braking

    Hi guys,

I'm getting a knock under braking, but only from the front passenger side. From reading up, sounds like drop links, top mount......anything else it could be?

    Thanks!

CDTi SRi 2006 is the car btw

Anyone at all? I've read up on the arb's, drop links and top mount, doesn't sound like those but can't be 100%.

    Hi nick_s,
i have had the saem thing from my vectra 54 plate 150,
under 30 mph if i change the direction of the vehicle, i.e, if i am at a constant speed and then brake, i get a knock, then if i accelarate i get the knock again, it is most obviouse if you come to a stop then start of again, i have but it into three different garages, i have had the struts that go in the middle of the springs replaced, still the same issue, i put it into vauxhall the last time, they stripped the suspension out, they said that at 111000 miles there are things worn there, but nothing to cause the noise they can hear, there is nothing damaged or dangerous, did you ever track your knock, as vauxhall said just carry on as normal, its not dangerouse but id rather have a car that does not knock.

the only thing i can come up with is i have a tow bar, and it was on one of the first towes we did the knock come, so wondering whether the load has damaged something in the frame, and also while towing the caravan, i managed to really burn the clutch once on a bad hill, just wondering if i have damaged clutch or dmf?

I've not traced it yet no, but it does sound like the springs moving in their seats according to a chap on vxon. I'll be stripping down the suspension so will be doing the spring seat mod (plastic sleeve over base of spring).

i dont think it will be the top strut bearings as these are generally noisy whilst turning the steering at low speed, have you had a look at your front arb bushes, it also could be your suspension arms, if you can get someone to walk alongside the car when you drive at low speed and when you brake get them to check and see if the wheel is moving forward or back.

The only way to diagnose knocking noises is to fully inspect the suspension system

I reported a knocking noise when I first had my car, three times
On the first visit, nothing found
On the second visit, they spent more time, still nothing
on the third visit, they took the car for a test drive and agreed there was a noise
They then placed marking strips on various suspension components, but nothing was showing as contacting
They then placed marking strips on the front bumper and panels
They found two marking strips were contacting
Turned out the tray under the engine was moving against the bumper, but they couldn't think of a solution "You'll probably have to live with it"
Wedged in a large double sided sticky pad on each side, job done

At the next service they reported the engine tray had been held in with sticky pads, and so had replaced all the screws
Yes, you guessed it, the noise was back

At the following service I pointed this out, and they fitted new pads

Check that the wheel is well tightened. Check the 5 bolts.

Well I have had the front springs changed today as passenger side snapped! Stress fracture, metal was solid, no rust.

Knock still there, but my mechanic brother is stripping down the brakes tomorrow as he thinks its the caliper.
