Service light question

If this is an old answered question I apologise but my searches have resulted in dead ends.

I hold down my trip reset button and after a few seconds I see the oil car and spanner icon show up with 10.000 bellow it.
my question is what exactly does that represent an what does the 10.000 figure tell me?

This is known as ECO Flex servicing
The car monitors the oil and component conditions and adjusts the service interval, if required
Tends to be quite accurate too, if 5W30 GM-LL oil is used

10,000 miles to next service
Counts down in units of 1,000 miles

At 1000 miles the count down ends and an oil can and spanner appears when you switch the car off

At 500 miles the oil can and spanner appear when you switch the ignition on

At 0 miles the oil can and spanner stay on

On service the counter is reset
This varies between 10,000 20,000 and 31,000 depending on engine
On mine it is 31,000 which is ridiculously high for a diesel
However, in the final 5000 it drops like a stone...

I beleive it is meant to be 10,000 till your next service. If it needed to be done then that light would show at start up.

For some reason mine says 30,000, its going into VX this week for a service, they can sort it then.

It just depends which service interval was programmed into the car when it was new. The number varies depending on which type of service plan it was put on.

I thought that was it too but if it was miles until next service then it should be counting down but its had 10.000 since i noticed it a month ago.

Its showing you the amount of miles still to be covered before the next service is due if long life oil is being used (Its set on ECOservice and long life oil should be used if you want to keep it at 20000 mile service intervals.)

ok so that 10.000 tells me i should service car every 10000 miles? and if last service was 63000 i should see an indication around 73000?

im having it fully serviced saturday as i cant verify the authenticity of the fully stamped service book.

No its counting down in units of 1000 miles.
You will see what the service interval is when the instrument is reset as
it will revert back to the high figure. Ask the garage that carries out the service to reset it.

Or try this to reset it yourself- Ignition off, hold in the trip reset button and press the brake pedal down, keep both pressed and switch on the ignition.
