Default What are the best tyres to buy????

    Hi all.

Just asking you all - What is the best budget tyre to buy?

I will very shortly need a full set of tyres for my 17" facelift sri wheels (unsure of technical name for them!) and am wanting to know what would the best tyre be to buy and what the prices are out there?

    thanks in advance

As above, buy the best you can afford
If unsure, then visit a local tyre specialist and ask for a listing including full specification
Look for the highest treadwear / traction / temperature rating

When the tyres wear out on the front, swap the rears to the front
That way you will have the highest average tread depth at all times
The disadvantage is the fronts will always have less than 6mm of tread, and then need replacing at about 3mm
The advantage is then you only need to replace two at a time

    Personal preference is the Michelin
However they ain't cheap in these sizes, so I am sticking with the Good Year that the Vectra C came with
    Sadly these were NCT5
The GSD3 were excellent, but now discontinued
The Assymetric is acceptable, but is due to also be discontinued in a few months time

    Avoid the Dunlop
Acceptable in smaller sizes (up to 15"), useless in ultra low profile in larger sizes

I used to do the above and run on 2 new tyres at a time. Now I swap fronts to rears every couple of months (not alternate sizes as I have my 4 wheel alignment done also).

I did this for the full life of my last tyres and with a heavy foot and a few races from the lights... autobahn speeds etc (90 minimum on most trips) I still covered 15-17k on a set! Thats with 2mm left on the old ones as 1.6 is far too low.

It works out more expensive but I believe that tyres should be replaced as a full set. If you have less tread on an axle set whether it be front or back your still not getting the full performance out of your tyres on that side of the vehicle! Even wear is always going to be better than half and half. Although economically it makes sense and its still not going to cause any major problems.

Tyres recommendations... I have 19's but found the Falken 452's too be brilliant (last set) but ordered some Vredestein Sessanta tyres as replacements after talking my friend into fitting them to his Mitsibushi Evo 8 - Heavy use, track use and great ratings in the wet have made me take the plunge... although be warned... They are rated as utterly useless in the snow! He even span out with his 4wd!.... but I have winter tyres also so its fine

i once tried budget but no more

have tried goodyear eagles ... ok but don't last

michelin primacy .. last but pricey

    all these were 215/50

now on continental contact sport...very good, i'd say better than either of above. £111 per tyre so not too expensive compared to primacy.
just got to see how long they last
