    Default Failed MOT on...

incorrectly spaced number plates!!! Anyway, after driving back for v5 document for proof of ownership they printed new plates and gave me my new mot. Now, they've got my car, they have the keys to the car, they can check the vin number and the car has number plates which are only spaced wrong then why do they need the v5 document to print new ones
So while waiting for them to finish the job i ended up buying a vxr rear bumper insert . so who wants to nominate me a good paint shop in the ayrshire region, also goin to get the v grille thats been in the shed colour coded at same time

V5 is required to prove YOU are the registered keeper.

Stupidly, the new V5C documents that are replacing the old V5s are not proof of ownership. Makes me wonder what is. I had to take mine when I went to get new plates at Halfords.

V5 has never been proof of ownership, only that it's registered to you. If a parent buys a car for their son/daughter to use and registers it in their child's name as they're the only driver of that car, the V5 doesn't mention that mum and dad paid for it and still own it.

can understand if i went into a retailers off the street that they might look for ownership for security reasons but they were only going to replace with same number thats already on the car, cant really see the problem personally.

Damn ridiculous isnt it, I had the same last year, went into Halfords to get new plates for my old saloon. Was told I needed to bring the V5 in, the car was in the car park with those plates on it, I told them they could even fit them and destroy the old ones if they wanted then there was no change whatsoever and they refused.

I walked out telling them exactly where they could stick their number plates, went online and ordered a set that arrived two days later, no proof of ownership, nothing. Crazy...
