    Default 1.9 cdti mpg (150bhp)

I went on a 600 motorway miles return drive this week, but only managed to get 38mpg overall,i was sat at 2k revs in top gear all the way up and back,i didn't think i was driving hard or putting my foot down, but i was a bit disappointed with the mpg to be honest,is it because i was at 2k rev's in top gear instead of 1500 revs ? which is of course a bit slower
What is other peoples 1.9 150 bhp cdti car revving at in top gear on the motorway to achieve better mpg ?

did you have to fill the tank more than once? I get around 600 for a full tank, have not worked out MPG

turbo kicks in around 1800 RPM I think

I got to around 500 miles when the fuel light came on
I put £70 in on the way up and got back as far as taunton and put another £70 in and topped it up to the brim again(£17) when i got home.
So if i left with a full tank and got home with a full tank,it cost me about £90 all in,at roughly £130 a litre.
I thought i'd sit at 2k revs so the turbo is just about working,so i don't have to put my foot down so much for inclines, even though i had cruise on,you get the idea.

2K is roughly 85- 90 MPH right? If that is the case then I think 500 Miles is pretty good. If you dropped down to 70 MPH I reckon you would easily get 600 miles.

    Just my opinion though

Sounds slightly better than 38mpg if the light came on at 500miles, you probably used 12 gallons (approx. 1 gallon left when the light comes on).
About 41mpg then. winter diesel gives less mpg, that's one thing to consider. Best way to test mpg is fill it up, do your journey then fill up again and see how much you've used exactly.

Still, on a long run for a CDTI that isn't great. I've had >600miles per tank many times. Is it running ok... if not check that egr first.

On my cdti 2000rpm in 6th gear is around 70mph if i remember correctly. very good economy should be achievable when holding steady at 2000rmp.

Yeah but just think how long it would have taken to do the trip
I was looking at the average mpg on the computer, and it was reading roughly 60 mpg at that speed,i was expecting a minimum of 50 mpg from that reading though.

Taken from my phone on the trip up

It is more than 70mph at 2k revs in my car
My egr is unplugged, dpf insides removed and as far as i know, the car didn't miss a beat and is running fine, but it did do 2 regens, one on the way up and another a day later while i was up there, but not on the way back.

<<goes out to check the speed at 2000rpm. any excuse to drive it

Pretty sure it's not 85-90 though, maybe wheel sizes change it a bit but shouldn't be a lot of difference.

Alright, pointless exercise of the day complete
    70mph(6th) = 2000rpm

Can anyone else check what it is on theirs, interested now to see if the final drive got changed on later cars - don't think so. Mine is a 2005 CDTI150.
    120PS version has a longer final drive than the 150 (120PS = 3.35, 150PS = 3.55)

I'd be amazed if the late model CDTI are pulling 85-90mph at 2000rpm. Someone prove me wrong!

edit... hang on - is yours an automatic. Mine's a manual.
