    Eek Forged Service Book!

    Dear all

Many of you may have seen my previous posts regarding the niggles i'm having with my GSi to which i'm going to add a HUGE problem.

I have been informed by two separate Vauxhall dealers that the service book i have is a forgery - apparently the vauxhall stamps are not correct, in so far that the dealer number is wrong and the Griffin is in the wrong place and the postcode is incorrect, in fact I've been told that Dagenham motors have never been a Vauxhall dealer! - I've attached a copy for you all to see.

I now need some advice, where do i go from here?? I need legal advice and how to report this and to whom.

The thing is i'm really quite happy with car and would like to keep it - the problem is with the service book.

The HPi check that I did came back all OK, the government online MOT history all stacked up with the national milegae register - so all seems fine from that point of view.

Any advice/recommendation will be gratefully appreciated

    Thanks

    Andy

Did you buy the car privately or from a dealer?

    HI

I've contacted the previous owner and he has not replied! it was bought from a car dealer, not vauxhall, just your box standard second hand car dealer.

Vauxhall them selves are not forth coming with any service details, they say they dont hold a database of car services so they cannot help either.

Before I go back to delaer i bought it from i need some "clout" behind me first so i know what i'm talking about if you know what i mean

    Any advice, please guys.

Contact Trading Standards, that was what I did with my clocked car and they got me a full refund, I was offered a settlement to keep the car as well so it was a good situation having them involved.

To be honest I would not worry. In my experience most service histories are not quite true lol. I don't count it. Just assess the condition of the car yourself and ignore the history. I work with mechanics. BELIEVE ME service histories even if correct can mean very little.

I'd go back to the dealer and try and get money back. You need to prove they knew I believe! X

i agree with the above to a point but i'd def get legal advice as FSH can inflate the price of a car by quite some way !

I've been in touch with trading standards and they say i have a claim to seek for damages. Basically i can claim for the difference in values between a car with a full service history and one which has not, also the service claims that the cambelt has been replaced, so i can claim for that too, as this would have also increased the cars value.

They pointed me to there website www.consumerdirect.gov.uk and advised to use template letter 6.

All of which i have done and the letter has already been sent by recorded delivery.

    Lets see what happens.

Has anybody ever gone down this route and been successful - I see Derek has, any other stories?

Thanks for the advice so far
