Default Can i check my Cambelt easily?

    Hola,

I am considering changing my cambelt on my vec but was wondering if it was possible to check it easily with no issues?

I think i can take the air box out and take the cover off the side can't i?

i just want to check it before buying new one (money is tight..)

    Thanks All.

You will need to remove it to fully inspect it. And even then there is a risk that you won't spot anything untoward.

As you have removed it, you might was well fit a new one - along with the tensioner and whatever else comes in the cambelt kit, and not forgetting the waterpump (if the belt drives it)

its still cheaper to have the belt done than a new engine ! no one can say wether a belt is ok or not by looking ! they can give an opinion but that still doesn't mean it wont snap in the mean time !

It's not due till 100k, I no people change them early but 60k, premature in my eyes, iv just bought my vec 1.9cdti and it had done 99k so i had the cambelt kit and waterpump changed for peice of mind, it's up to you mate but I think 80k would be more sensible, iv heard of people going well over the reccomended mileage and time, in do agree with the others thought about not being able to check it

You can't really tell from looking at a belt. Some times they look ok and just snap, sometimes they will stretch and wear the outside of the belt but thats not always an indication of them about to fail.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

I think the original idea of the question means how easy is it to check the cam belt etc,in as much,is it difficult to access so that he can have a look and see if there appears to be anything "iffy",with the set up FELIXX.
