Emissions warning symbol

On driving home tonight emission warning symbol came on (static) and car had a slight judder. When idling if accelerator is pressed sounds like the exhaust is rasping/misfire.

Noticed that the temperature gauge was going from 0 to 90 whilst driving the car later on.

Any ideas I have a 56 plate 1.8 vvt

sorry i cant helpbut was just about to put same post up around 9pm i fired up my 08 150 diesel and the little picture of the engine was their and stayed on

drives 100 fine just have the light on perminantly

do you mean temp gauge was dropping to 0? If it rises to 90 when in traffic but drops to 0 when moving you have a failed thermostat, easy fix, search this forum theres a how2 as well. This could also cause emmissions light as car will be running too cold. Otherwise, the misfire might be causing it. Try the pedal test to read your fault codes. Look in how2's for ''read fault codes for free without any equipment''. Then look for sticky at top of main troubleshooting forum for what they mean. You need to do this before anyone will know anymore I reckon.
