Default I feel i have made a big mistake

Some please convince me that i havent made a massive mistake

    Changed from a 3.2 gsi to a 1.9 150 sri about 3 weeks ago

Had my beloved 3.2 for around a year and didnt have a single problem (except the battery gave up in the cold weather)

Had the 1.9 for 2 weeks and its giving me a right headache! Just doesnt feel as though it is running like it should so i have been on a mission since i bought it, done egr valve, boost sensor, air box mod, pipercross panel filter etc etc......then i came to find that my swirl valve linkage was off so set about repairing that and thats where i am now, cant get the ****** thing back on.

Been scouting round this forum and it seems like there is a million + 1 problems with the 1.9

Please someone either tell me i am being silly and they are a good reliable car, or tell me what i can buy instead!

    Sounds nasty

I had no problems with my 1.9 CDTi but sold it in good working order at 56,000 miles 'ish... I met the owner 2 years later and he said it had been running fine as well... so that one was a good car

    Mate you have buyers remorse!
I have had 3 CDTi 150s and never had any bother with them.
Perhaps just a few wee things may need cleaning. Get yourself a DTUK green box and blast the cobwebs out of there!

Well I had me inlet manifold changed, water pump changed, timing belt changed all for £750 at an independent garage.

whats the mileage on the car?

Unfortunatly the only fix for the swirl flap bar is a replacement manifold, did u buy the car from a dealer? or private sale?

I know its easy to say now but a bit of research before buying the car would have shown a few common issues with the 1.9 CDTi. The swirl bar is an easy check, noise from the clutch/dmf indicates possible failure and the rear arb's are also an easy check.

many guys have had to take off their egr and inlet manifold and give them a clean as they are coked up with soot. You can do it yourself but its something you will have to get used to.. I wouldn't touch one myself but not all are bad they just need this egr and manifold thing doing, saab 9-3 diesel has the same engine and their owners suffer with the same problem.

The guys on here have done threads on how to clean the things out (i think), plus there are loads of sites across the tinterweb where people have had to deal with this on their tractor engines of various other makes. Diesel is a very oily fuel and therefore creates a lot of soot and this clogging of egr and manifolds is very common, what you save on fuel costs you spend on new egrs and manifolds..

We just put our engineers pool car in to be done as it is so coked up, again... shame as its a nice drive compared to crap courtesy car they have left us with

Had two spacing over a period of 5 years and there has only been 1 issue, this is with the new owner and its a sensor on the IDS has failed, and he;s had it for nearly 6 months,

1 issue ove 5.5 years I think is pretty good with any brand , Im sure there are lots worst out there,
