    Exclamation Newbie arrival

Hi im Gaz, used to own a 1.8SRi, moved to the dark side and had a 2.2SRi Astra, but after playing and modding with it got bored and regretted not getting a turbo. Instead i went bigger against my turbo hunting idea's and got a 02 Gsi and love it !!!!!
Cant wait to start tinkering and seeing what potential it has, any idea's? where to start? a decent service on the blocks for the weekend.
    cheers and hi all
    Gaz

    Welcome to the forum!

I too am a GSi owner. I love mine! It's just such a brilliant car! VERY quick. Exceptionally comfortable. Lots of boot space. Extremely practical. I am even averaging 29 odd mpg on my daily commute and in central London traffic! I say "even" because I consider that to be an achievement, considering the performance that is just a curl of a big toe away!

Mods. Hmmm. Some like to replace the air filter with an aftermarket one, along with "the airbox mod." Do a search of the forum or look under the How To section. I am using a standard air filter and did the airbox mod on Saturday. I am not sure if it's me but the car feels even more lively and responsive! A cone filter would be the other possibility - either open or with a cold air feed. Some say that the open cone filter tends to increase the temperature (and reduce the density) of the air fed into the engine due to under-bonnet temperatures but others say it makes little or no difference.

Aside from that, a cat-back exhaust (circa £350-400, fitted) can liberate a little power - and the glorious GSi noise!

Some have remapped theirs. A few specialists offer this for the GSi 3.2. A decent air filter (panel and airbox mod or cone), plus a cat back, plus a remap ought to see you up at around 235 bhp, apparently.

Aside from that, you are into possible camshaft swaps and considerable expense. I do not know where said camshafts can be obtained from. Next up would be internal modifications to the engine and extractor exhaust manifolds but there you are talking major expense.

How far do you want to go? Mine still almost scares me with its pace at times and it's virtually bog standard!
