Thread: Headlights flickering constantly also engine misfire,any advice?

    Default Headlights flickering constantly also engine misfire,any advice?

    I`ve got a couple of problems with one of my vec c`s so i`m looking for advice / possible solutions

    firstly the car is a

    2007 vectra c 1.9 cdti 120

    the problem is my headlights constantly flicker when the engine is revved up and when driving infact all the lights flicker i.e dashboard lights,headlights etc and it`s really really annoying

    another issue i have and i don`t know if it`s related to this fault is a definate misfire at low revs ( below 2000 rpm ) when driving in town etc it is quite noticable and usually requires to be dropped a gear to be more driveable and to stop it feeling jerky to drive

    i connected a multi meter to my battery today while the engine was running ( tickover speed ) and have noted the alternator doesn`t send a steady constant voltage to the battery when charging it constantly flickers between 13.80 volts and 14.30 volts changing between the two every half second or so which has lead me to think the alternator doing this flickering output is causing my lights etc to flicker also ???

    any advice / thoughts on this would be most welcome

    p.s the alternator was changed for a recon unit after the original packed in about a year ago before this change the lights were ok and also after it was changed only recently has the flickering fault occured

    do you think the new alternator is now faulty?

    Sounds very much like the alternator regulator is on the way out causing the slight surge in power that is changing the intensity of the lights - go back to who ever replaced/supplied it and ask for a replacement.

    thanks but it`s out of warranty ( was only 3 months )

    How long have you had the car?

    Thinking along the lines of The Sale of Goods Act.
