Default Its happening again, im looking at replacement cars!! Whats your thoughts??

Happens every now and then. Its like getting itchy feet, I cant stop looking for a replacement car, although I dont need one.

Anyway, im looking at an Astra-H, 1.9 CDTI SRI 150 XPACK. Its got approx 75k on it, dont know about the SH as its been in and out of a salvage yard. On a 2006/56-reg. Cat-C repaired.

What do you guys think about the car and what do you think is a true value for it? Generally the car is mint. Obvioudly my concerns without a service book are the DMF/Inlet Manifold and all the other usual suspects.

    COMMENTS PLEASE!

    Bye bye Vec B

id say mo more than 3k, would stay clear though - theres a lot of people out there who repair them to poor standards for a quick buck - i know i used to work with some, even though its VIC checked could still be poorly repaired bad welds not repaired to standards etc.

    I wouldn't touch a CDTi 150 if I was you - that's my comment.

    You're just asking for trouble.

I had one, and because of that would not buy another one again (saying that with all the parts replaced on my old, the boy got a very good one), with each of the repair bills being upto a grand, even that majority of warranties (with £500 limits) aren't much help.

Failing DMF's / Inlet Manifolds / intercoolers etc. will happen regardless of maintenance, just a case of when. I would love to know how many there are driving around with no swirl bars (and the owners don't realise - and assume they are this laggy by design), I bet there are a hell of a lot - you can tell when you watch them set off !!!

Its a shame as I love the look of the Alfa 159Ti but just couldn't own another diesel car with that engine.

Puts a spanner in the works. I really want as Astra SRI CDTI, but these things do put me off.

Whats the 1.7 CDTI engine like? Similar issues? Any experience?

That's a very reliable unit (certainly in comparison to the 150), that would be my choice, as I love the look of the fully XP'd Astra's.

Obviously there will be people that have had few issues with their 150, but I would hate for you to get one and its usual issues rear their head, I certainly wouldn't want those bills again and the constant thought of will it or won't it run right today !!

Sounds like a reasonable comment. Plus with Zero SH its a gamble. I think ill pass on it.

On the flip side, I actually saw an identical one last night somewhere up North that had front end damage, price £3500. Bit steep as it needs an airbag set too.

I am in a big style dilema though as I really want to stick to Vx, preferably Astra/Signum/Vectra and must have a Diesel, so do I go for a 120 lump and chip it?

I'm in the same boat wanting to swap to something bit more sensible than my 3.0 deisel. It gets 40mpg but I'm not going to be able to afford to run it when I leave the RAF next year so looking at getting rid now rather than later. It's just whether I can actually sell it for a decent price at all at the moment, even with all the VXR and Irnscher kit on it...
