    Question Cambelt change and cost

    Morning All,

My local dealer has informed me that my vehicle is due a cambelt change - its a GSi 3.2 V6, with 80.5k on the clock. they say the change should be done at either 8 years or 80k. so my questions are:

    • is this correct for the model? 80k or 8 years? the stampled service book i have from teh previous owner shows a "cambelt service" whatever that is, at 59.2k in Octber 2005
    • They have quoted me £444.78 to have it done - is this reasonable, cheap, expensive.
    • Can anone recommend a decent indy in the harrogate/york area?
Thanks guys, any advice will be appreciated.

I would say if the cambelt has all ready been replaced 20k ago it does not need doing again mate. Perhaps try and contact the garage the cambelt was done at and confirm what actually took place in this service.

    hi there

I've contacted the delaership were the car came from previously and unfortunately they are no longer a vauxhall dealer (now ford) and their records dont go that far back. I've also contacted Vauxhall direct and they wont provide details.

I just want to know what know if the car did have its cambelt changed back in October - if i cant find an answer i think to be safe i will have to get it replaced anyway - whic is why the questions about cost etc.

    Cheers

Can't comment on the V6....but the usual advice is a Cambelt Kit & Water Pump.

Just had a Gates Kit, Water Pump & Micro V belt fitted to our 1.8 Z18XE petrol Facelift Club. Total Price from a local motor factors where I work part time including 3 litres of Red/Pink Long Life antifreeze was about £112.00 including VAT.
A mechanic mate fitted 'em Sunday Morning & Charged me £60.00 cash....

    Yours will be more expensive...

But there are web sites...Ebay & the like where they can be bought as cheap as or Cheaper.....

    Check 'em out....

    Cheers

There's many a discussion on here about the 80k change interval but I found of the eight dealers I contacted back in 2007, all said what you've been told.

If you've any doubt as to it's history, then change it. Mine cost £400 + VAT to change at a VX dealer in the Home Counties in 2007 @ around 60k miles IIRC but this included the water pump as well. IMO, get the pump done as well whilst the engine is stripped down as there's the same amount of strip down required to replace the water pump as there is the cam belt.

Ask the dealer if they'd do it for say £420 (or even less) with the pump. Nothing to lose in asking as dealers are desperate for your business at the moment.
