They did my 2.2dti about 5-6k ago, only gripe was that they didnt fix that peice of plastic underneath back on properly lol...
Claim they use castrol edge, thats why i went with them
That's the same price that my local dealership quotes for an interim service, which then include basic inspection and pollen filter
I asked them for a quote on an oil and filter change, and it was near on £100
Remember the 3.0 V6 CDTI takes 8 litres of oil (dealerships normally invoice for each complete litre of oil) and they normally charge by the litre
Therefore if you supply the oil you can reduce that cost
your not wrong there, i put mine into a indy garage and they drained the oil then removed the iol filter drain plug only to find it brought all the threads with it, then couldnt get the filter housing off, in the end i just told them to get it off however neccesary and replace it (the drain plug wouldnt seal properly anayway) turns out its £50 from VX and is an order part, ordered it sayurday should hopefully come today
Just go to the parts department and buy the parts (8 litres of oil, oil filter, and sump plug)
Then go to the service department and ask for a requote for the labour only
Some dealerships charge a minimum of 1 hour, but they should only charge for the specific labour time
Equally, take the parts to a local mechanic and see what they want to charge
My local advised they would charge £30 if I supplied the parts
Next consideration is what oil to use
As your car is out of warranty you may want to change to 10W40 fully synthetic oil, replacing every 10K miles, instead of using the service indicator (if car on EcoFlex)
However, you could continue using the 5W30 GM-LL specification oil with the 20K/30K mile change intervals
Finally, in that original quote of £150, what oil were they going to use?
They said it's the 5/30 fully synthetic it's always had in. I've used the same dealership for 5 yrs. And don't forget they are doing the diesel filter as well for that price, I can change engine oil and filter myself ,but the tool you need for the fuel filter and the fact I've never done one makes me unsure. As long as £150 isn't a daft price o. The v6 I'd rather pay them but if it's way too much I could do the oil myself then get them to do the filter?
Cheers penfold I thought I read that unscrewing the 2 halves was a nightmare as they are very tight?
That's the 1.9 filter mate - this one's a piece of cake, no unscrewing required
