Default Cost of living getting higher

I was reading today that the 40% tax band is going to be lowered to 35k from £37400 NI is going up from 11% to 12% and if you earn over 40K you will be paying 2% on your earnings instead of the usual 1% for NI

Then I get home and utility bills have gone up. Just worked it out we are going to be about £120 worse off there as well

Take into account the extra VAT we are all paying and the cost of petrol think I'm gonna say sod it and not bother going to work anymore

Not going to effect most people and those that do earn over £40k are not exactly on the breadline.

See thats what really annoys me. I earn over 40k but in order to do that I have to spend weeks away from my family working in a dangerous environment in dangerous conditions living on a boat/rig sometimes sharing a room with 5 other blokes, eating crap food and trying to keep yourself amused as there are no tv,s. Its as basic as it gets out in Africa on some FPSO and rigs

Why do people think if you earn more you should be hit with more tax? I risk my life to earn the money I do so I can provide a comfortable life for my children

The tax-free personal allowance is also going up, so many people being "bumped" into the higher tax bracket won't actually pay any more tax.

Hmmm now there's a point..... It's only if you earn a fair bit more than 35k will you notice the difference. Those near the bracket won't feel the full effect.
