I Think Roundabouts Are Bad In England

What would you replace them with? 4way junctions are far more dangerous as they don't slow down, roundabouts force you to slow down, unless your a complete numpty

i liked the 4way junction in america when i was out there, also how you can turn right on a red light made it better

But four way junctions in this country cause many more accidents, at a greater speed than at roundabouts.

Also an accident at a roundabout is more likely to be a glancing blow, a collision at an angle, rather than a "t bone" at a four way junction, higher speed, straight into the side.

Talk about watching a train crash in slow motion, clearly some of those numpties shouldn't be let near a car.

But I think the town planners have something to answer as well. There should be 'keep left' arrow bollards on the approach to the junction, plus a small mound to 'persuade' drivers to circumvent the centre. I guess the bollards and mound aren't there to allow easier HGV access for the supermarket.

I agree. They should be planned in to make room for it.

I'm with BigSig on this one.

Roundabouts are safer, and IMO the best invention EVER.

They are completely self managing, and if everyone used them properly, pulled out in gaps rather than waiting all day for the 'bout to be totally clear, traffic would flow so much smoother!

Really gets my goat when councils remove roundabouts and replace them with traffic light controlled junctions. Causes traffic build up and takes the thinking away from the driver.
