Default Finally a complete DPF regen...

I've not been doing many long journeys lately and on at least 3 occasions it had decided to start regen right near the end of my journeys - and each time it was when I had an appointment or was meeting someone, so I didn't have the luxury of driving it around for another 20 mins, so I had to switch off before it had completed - not a good thing.

A few times when I had reasonable length journeys I tried to coax it in to doing a regen by driving it quite hard once engine was warm, but it wouldn't play ball and I decided to wait until I got my **-COM and manually regen it.

However, tonight coming back from church, I spotted a volvo being driven rather enthusiastically approaching behind. Once it came alongside I saw it wasn't a , and this was a nice stretch of NSL dual carriageway with several roundabouts, so I decided to have some fun... Volvo was able to keep pace with me on the straights, but the driver wasn't as confident (or perhaps as wreckless ) as me on the roundabouts so I eventually got a little way ahead.

Now that my ego was satisfied and I went back to driving sensibly, I noticed it was only doing about 20-25mpg on the instantaneous readout, so I knew it was doing a regen. Thankfully I was able to continue driving along the dual carriageway at 70 in 4th gear to get a thorough clean. Once the MPG improved I turned around and went home.

I'll sleep better tonight knowing that my DPF has been cleaned properly. I was starting to get paranoid about it...

ahhhh the joys of DPF ownership. She will probably be ok now for the next 700 to 1000 miles, thats when mine tends to do a regen, so im ready for it.

I've had mine 3 and a half years and I've never noticed it doing a regen, it must be working fine because the car runs well and the tailpipe is spotless. I do take it for a 100 mile run at least once a week though doing a constant 70mph for most of it.

That will work great to keep the dpf clear, its short cold round town runs that tend to fill the DPF that bit faster. My daily commute is only about 5 miles, so the car has barely warmed up, but once a month during winter i take her for a good run up the motorway to help clear some soot and sometimes regen happens to keep it all working, so far so good.
