Auto Box Oil Change

Hi All,

I have the 1.9cdti auto estate with 47.5K. I have done 10K miles myself, so do not know about its past owner driving style. Service book shows transmission oil chage at 50K miles, but chap in service dept recons it does not need doing!!

Anyone any advice on this?

i was under the impression off this site should be changed every 100,000 miles

50k for sure, no more. Go and find a better service or... tell them to change it regardless. Although I would search for a better service.

The AF 40 have "liftime oil" but driving under severe operating conditions it should be changed every 80000km (50000 miles). Most automatic transmission experts will say every 60000km. Opel/Vauxhall procedure is only drain and fill this will only change about 3 liters but the total of the system is about 7 liters.

I was told if you dont have any problems with the gearbox then leave well alone, some people have had problems after changing it. I experienced this when I changed mine in my previous car. If the box is running ok then dont touch it.

Then it would be a bit like saying "if the engine's running OK, don't change the engine oil" .

If VX recommend an auto box oil change, then that's how it should be IMO.

well i was just talking to my friend at vx he has worked there for 15 years and never changed gearbox oil in any autos

Then you can ask how many auto gearboxes he have changed

Of course VX would recommend it and probably state at "your local VX dealership". More money for them.

I changed mine at 100,000 in my Ford Scorpio and caused problems, before I changed it, it was running fine. Iv learn from it and wont change it again until it seems to be playing up.
